**What you’ll be doing**
ScottishPower’s Drawing Office is expanding to meet growing business demands, and we are seeking a BIM / CAD Designer (Drawing Office) – Plant to support these efforts. As a BIM / CAD Designer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing high‐quality engineering model and drawing solutions for Transmission Network Projects (132kV and above). Reporting to the Plant Discipline Lead, you will play an important role in delivering accurate, consistent model and drawing outputs that meet project, safety, and compliance requirements. This role will draw on your key skills in engineering model and drawing creation, technical expertise within Plant, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the discipline. We are looking for a flexible, self‐driven individual who is passionate about enhancing the team’s knowledge and understanding of innovative engineering solutions and designs.
**Responsibilities**
- Preparation of Models & Drawings: Developing both feasibility and detailed design models and drawings for complex transmission / distribution projects.
- Compliance: Supporting adherence to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards within project deliverables.
- Workload Management: Responsible for organising and progressing your allocated workload efficiently.
- Information Gathering: Collecting relevant information to produce accurate models and drawings.
- Standards Promotion: Communicating and encouraging the use of drawing standards and procedures.
- QA Systems: Ensuring your work complies with externally audited QA systems and supporting the discipline in maintaining these standards.
- Database Maintenance: Contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of the drawing office databases.
- Design Change System: Contribute to an auditable design/design change system to facilitate BS EN 9001 accreditation.
- Drawing Assessment: Assessing basic and detailed engineering drawings during approval process.
- Team Support: Providing guidance and support to team members in their areas of expertise.
- Client Delivery: Ensuring timely delivery of high-quality work to clients, achieving high client satisfaction.
- Documentation Review: Preparing and reviewing drawing documentation and processes within the drawing office.
- Communications: Keeping drawing office manager, design lead, project staff and clients updated on work progress and any issues that arise.
**What you’ll bring**
- In-depth understanding of engineering design principles and health & safety requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with individuals, departments, and businesses.
- Produce technical drawings, including plans, sections, elevations, schedules, and details.
- Proficient in using Autodesk products, including but not restricted to Revit 2024, AutoCAD 2022, Vault, Autodesk Forma, ProjectWise, Raster Design 2020, and the MS Office suite.
- Coordinate models with multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring alignment with BIM execution plans.
- Implement and maintain Revit standards, templates, and families.
- Assist in clash detection and model audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Update models based on design changes, markups, and engineering feedback.
- Support project teams with BIM workflows, documentation, and digital collaboration tools.
- Ensure all work meets quality, accuracy, and project deadlines.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of digital processes and modelling efficiency.
- Understanding of construction methods, regulations such as British standards (BS) and technical detailing.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience with BIM Level 2 workflows and common data environments.
- Excellent organisational abilities to ensure high client satisfaction and the ability to plan and manage conflicting requirements to meet challenging deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Capability to investigate and comprehend detailed substation design aspects of transmission / distribution network design or other energy-related assets.
- Contribute recommendations of continuous improvement initiatives relating to the drawing office functions and deliverables.
