A Development Engineer within the Primary Projects team (33kV and 11kV) is responsible for contributing to the Project Management of ED2 Capex Investment programme, covering Asset Modernisation, Refurbishment and Network Reinforcement. The role involves operating within SPEN Financial and Project Lifecycle Governance processes, to see projects through from conception to completion, as well as liaising with all SPM District areas and external stakeholders (Material Suppliers and Delivery Contractors) to support with this work.

What you’ll be doing

  • Independently develop IP3/4 financial documentation in line with SPEN Investment Paper Governance, to progress projects through financial stages, but also using engineering knowledge.
  • Support and undertake in Procurement of varying types (Framework, non-framework...etc...) to secure Pre-Engineering and Long Lead Time material and services.
  • Support and undertake Payments for varying types of materials and services allocated to projects, as projects progress through conception to delivery phase. Ensure payments are made in line with SPEN Financial Standards and meet audit requirements.
  • Lead TECO reviews for the team, conducting checks and remediations to enable the team to meet annual target, in order of £20M per annum.
  • Provide support to team during quarterly annual forecasting process, to ensure that project progress is properly financially monitored over the course of 12-month calendar period, with target in the order of £20M per annum for Investment Capex.
  • Comply with Company Health & Safety standards, including keeping SPEN Authorisations up to date.
  • Operate under sound working relationship with key internal and external Stakeholders, including 5x SPM Districts, Suppliers and Contractors, to enable passing of key information between each party.
  • Develop Project Design work stream, including CDM Documentation, Site Design Inspections and Handover to Delivery teams, to support expected increase in ED3 work bank.

What you’ll bring

  • Commercial awareness in line with SPEN Financial regulations and SPEN Project Lifecycle Governance procedures.
  • Ability to use technology to aid Project Management, e.g Sap PM, PPM, Microsoft applications.
  • Project management experience, with a strong performance ethos and a track record of driving and delivering projects and initiatives.
  • Ability to adapt to localised problems/challenges in day-to-day work and identify potential solutions.
  • Track record of effective stakeholder management and customer engagement.
  • Ability to communicate well in written and verbal forms and present information effectively to varying levels of recipients (i.e Technical and Non-technical personnel).
  • Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgement to determine optimal solutions.
  • Awareness and understanding of key business drivers and the external commercial context in which ScottishPower is operating.
  • Relevant, or interest in obtaining, SPEN authorisations to enter Primary and Secondary substations to undertake site analysis works.
  • Relevant, or interest in obtaining, knowledge in relation to 33kV and 11kV Substations, including some experience with Policy documents and key components of Substations.

Minimum Criteria

  • Hold an HNC or Degree in an engineering discipline supported by some experience in the Power Distribution Industry.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Sound verbal and written Communication.
  • Expected 3 day working week in Prenton Office.
