The predicted salary is between 44000 - 55000 ÂŁ per year.
The main purpose of the role is to support projects by providing expert and competent asbestos advice to project teams across SP Transmission. This includes delivering Health and Safety services and advice to over 600 employees and agency professionals within SPT and to 800-1000 contractors, based at our project construction sites, as part of our supply chain for the RIIO-T3 price control period. The role ensures full compliance with asbestos legislation, internal procedures, and industry best practice while supporting safe management of asbestos-containing materials.
What youâll be doing
- Manage and continually improve projects asbestos management in alignment with Group requirements by ensuring compliance with Scottish Powerâs asbestos management of control and duty of care.
- As a central support function, provide expert advice on asbestos risks, controls and safe systems of work to Project Managers, Construction site teams and Contractor Partners.
- Input, maintain and review asbestos related procedures and guidance within the Integrated Management System.
- Support the wider Asbestos Management working group by sharing, communicating and collaborating with various licence areas to ensure compliance with asbestos management requirements.
- Provide support, coaching and training to those involved in asbestos projects.
- Implement an asbestos audit program to ensure compliance by carrying out regular inspections where asbestos works are being carried out.
- Ensuring any asbestos related incidents are investigated in line with the Incident Management Framework to establish root cause in conjunction with the project Health and Safety Advisor.
- Ensure lessons learned and process improvements are captured, and the relevant procedures are updated and communicated to the business.
- Continual improvement for all Health and Safety processes through consistent internal gap analysis.
- Assist with the implementation of the asbestos framework for the proposed 4 year period -2026-2030.
What youâll bring
- The candidate will have a minimum of an HNC/HND in a construction and/or occupational health and safety background.
- Experience in asbestos management role within utilities, construction or industrial environments.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple sites and projects.
- Strong understanding of asbestos legislation (e.g., CAR 2012), HSG264, HSG247 and associated guidance.
- Experience in commissioning, reviewing or conducting asbestos surveys, air monitoring and analytical activities.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 and management system requirements.
- Ability to interpret technical data, risk assessments and method statements.
- Strong communication and relationshipâbuilding skills with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience of internal auditing, gap analysis, performance reporting and associated continual improvement.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate, Minimum Tech membership of IOSH and CSCS card.
- Current valid driving licence.
