Help us create a better future, quicker! At SP Energy Networks, we’re making significant investments to build modern, resilient distribution networks that can support a smarter, cleaner, low‑carbon future. Our Major Projects teams are central to this transformation — delivering complex, high‑value infrastructure that will help Scotland realise its Net Zero ambitions.

We are now seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our SPD Major Projects team within the Central and Fife District, playing a key role in delivering critical programmes that strengthen and future proof the distribution network.

What you’ll be doing

Working within the SPD (Distribution) directorate, you will play a key role in delivering large, civils driven electrical infrastructure projects. You will manage the successful delivery of multi‑disciplinary works, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality outcomes.

  • Managing the programme of works across both electrical and civils contractors, ensuring projects are delivered on time, safely, and within budget.
  • Leading day‑to‑day contractor and stakeholder relationships, acting as the key interface for project delivery.
  • Overseeing civils‑biased elements of major distribution projects, including substations, cable routes, and enabling works.
  • Developing, monitoring, and reporting on project and construction programmes.
  • Ensuring projects comply with SPEN engineering, technical and safety standards, including CDM regulations.
  • Coordinating outage planning and ensuring impacts to the network are minimised.
  • Supporting robust communication with landowners, local authorities, customers, and internal teams.
  • Promoting exemplary safety behaviours and ensuring full compliance with legislation and SPEN safety rules.
  • Driving continual improvement through analysis of project outcomes and contractor performance.
What you’ll bring
  • Strong project/programme management experience — ideally gained within civils biased engineering projects, preferably on electrical networks or utilities.
  • Experience coordinating internal engineering teams and external contractors.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across a busy, multi‑project portfolio.
  • Knowledge of construction, civils works, safety legislation, CDM regulations and associated compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to develop project plans, risk assessments and deliver against challenging timelines.
  • Commercial and contract awareness with a focus on value, quality, and performance.
Minimum Criteria
  • HNC/D or Degree in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in the construction or delivery of electricity network or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Civils experience on network‑related projects (e.g., substations, cable routes, enabling works) is highly desirable.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use project management and reporting tools effectively.
What’s in it for you

As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we’ll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%. At ScottishPower, we believe it’s the little things we do in life that make a big difference.
