What youâll be doing:
- The Infrastructure Team designs and supports the operational data network and firewall environment for Smart Grid Operations.
- As a Senior or Lead Engineer, you will help deliver network improvement programmes, coordinate change activity, resolve complex technical issues and manage the lifecycle of core network assets.
- Lead Engineers provide additional leadership and strategic oversight across planning and delivery, while Senior Engineers support programme execution and technical delivery to keep our critical systems secure, reliable and future ready.
- Define and communicate technical standards, ensuring solutions are designed and delivered in line with organisational requirements.
- Lead or support the design, development and delivery of network solutions, including business cases, project planning and full lifecycle execution.
- Manage network change programmes, working closely with internal teams and suppliers to ensure highâquality, onâtime delivery and effective service performance.
- Provide expert technical support to resolve complex operational issues and maintain reliability across critical network infrastructure.
- Contribute to architectural planning, helping shape future network capabilities, refresh cycles and investment priorities.
- Investigate network faults and recommend corrective actions to improve performance, security and resilience.
- Develop, maintain and enhance infrastructure policies, processes and documentation aligned to best practice.
- Promote operational excellence with a strong focus on safety, quality and environmental standards.
Lead only: Recommend annual work programmes, budgets and new technologies that support the longâterm infrastructure strategy.
What youâll bring:
- Strong technical background in network architecture or advanced network engineering in large, complex environments.
- Deep knowledge of IP networking, routing and switching, SDN, and firewalls including Palo Alto and Cisco, along with solid network security expertise.
- Proven experience delivering IT or network projects, balancing technical insight with commercial awareness.
- Strong understanding of network hardware platforms and modern infrastructure technologies, with awareness of broader voice, data and internet technologies.
- Experience engaging effectively with customers, suppliers and technical partners to achieve highâquality outcomes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at both technical and senior stakeholder levels.
- Ability to plan, review and challenge technical proposals, translate business needs into effective solutions and support decisions across multiple projects.
- Degree or HND in a relevant IT or network discipline.
