The Revenue Management team undertakes a key role within UK Operations in managing ScottishPower’s overall Revenue Protection Service (RPS) obligations throughout the UK as well as supporting Debt Operations management of field activity.
he highly skilled role is absolutely pivotal to ensure that RPS & Debt operations contribute towards the strategic objectives of the business in identifying and remedying theft of energy cases as well as supporting Debt Operations in the installation of gas meters to manage outstanding debts.
Energy theft is illegal and carries an inherent safety threat with a real risk of explosion, fire or electrocution for anyone that comes into contact with an illegal supply. The Revenue Protection Dual Fuel Technician role is key to identifying such cases and mitigating the associated risk.
What you’ll be doing
- Whilst ensuring that all matters relating to Health and Safety remains the number 1 priority within Revenue Management and fully aware of how their actions affect other people and processes, clearly apply business policy on all Health & Safety matters whilst engaged in any work for the business.
- Maintaining all relevant authorisations and attendance at all training courses associated with the role.
- Visiting Residential, SME and Industrial & Commercial (I&C) properties to undertake extensive investigations to identify cases of energy theft for both gas and electricity services.
- Installation, maintenance, removal and repair of low pressure and medium pressure gas supplies at Residential, SME and I&C properties.
- Installation, maintenance, removal and repair of low voltage metering, including Smart metering and communication links at Residential, SME and I&C properties. This is up to and including Live working.
- The role-holder will also have a full understanding of domestic and commercial gas appliances in order to support industry theft calculators to calculate on-site assessed accounts.
- Close liaison with Distribution Network Operators and Gas Transporters to remedy identified network issues.
- Engagement with SP Energy Networks to identify unallocated sites and undertake the investigation of complex wiring configurations within Residential and Commercial properties.
- Support Quality team in contributing to Workplace Reference Manual updates. In doing so, ensure ScottishPower Revenue Protection Service 100% adheres to all relevant Supply Licence Conditions and regulatory obligations.
- Delivery of high quality performance to ensure ScottishPower meets Electricity and Gas Theft Detection Incentive Scheme targets and therefore mitigate any risk of having to pay financial penalties.
- Engaging with Police and Emergency Services throughout the UK whist undertaking specific projects, some of which could be covert operations.
- Provision of Police Statements and attendance at court where required to provide expert witness evidence.
- Management of workload to deliver high performance in terms of investigations completed, interference detected, and debt recovered.
- Enforcement of Revenue Protection Warrants issued by Her Majesty’s Court and Tribunal Service.
- Supporting debt warrant activity to install electricity and gas Prepayment meters or to disconnect electricity or gas supplies on request.
- Provision of detailed investigation reports which must be of a high quality that can be produced as evidence in court.
- Ensuring all gas work is completed in line with current gas regulations and ScottishPower processes.
- Management of stock levels to ensure appropriate equipment is always available to ensure all work is completed at first visit.
- Ability to work autonomously and make on-site decisions in regard to action to take on detecting a confirmed energy theft.
- Engagement with external parties (Other Suppliers; HM Courts; Police; Fire Service; Distribution Network Operators, including independent DNO; Gas Transporters; Xoserve; Housing Associations; UK Revenue Protection Association; MOCOPA; AMO; Gas Safe).
- The Dual Fuel Technician will also act as a mentor to colleagues joining the team and within the wider business.
What you’ll bring
Gas Specific –
- Gas Safe registered member
- Full knowledge of Gas Safe Accreditation requirements (includes Building Regulations; Metering; Pipework; Vented Cylinder).
- NICEIC Certification – accredited certified scheme for individual Gas fitting operative.
- CMA1 – Specific core for Meter Installers.
- MET4 – Install, exchange, remove and commission diaphragm gas meters, including Commercial meters.
- REGT1 – Installation, testing & commissioning Domestic Medium pressure meters regulators and controls.
- LOGIC Certification – Domestic Basic Gas Installation Practice (Compliant with IGEM/IG/1).
- PEB1 – Protective equipotential bonding.
(All necessary training will be supplied to the successful candidate)
Electricity Specific –
- Relevant SP DNO Authorisations COMP & APSA. With minimum 5 years electric metering experience.
- Live working authorisations AWP- 01 & AWP – 17.
- Earth Fault Loop Impendence Testing.
- SMICOP – Multi phase, multi – rate, Single Phase, Single phase off Multi- phase.
- EUSR Certified Utility SHEA (Power) – GS-1.1 Safety Passport Operative.
- MOCOP Competent.
- Basic first aid – P20.1.

General
- Detailed knowledge of applicable applications (ECOES; Xoserve).
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Articulate with first class Customer Service and negotiation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and to respond to aggressive or hostile situations in a professional and non-confrontational manner.
- PC Literate.
- Ability to write detailed and complex expert reports and witness statements.
- Ability and willingness to travel to locations throughout the UK.
