Craft Training Manager

Salary from £47,200 – £57,000 per annum with up to 10% annual bonus & single person health cover

Purpose
Manage the internal Craft Trainers at ScottishPower’s Hoylake Training Centre to deliver high quality and engaging training courses as per agreed business training plans and in line with the Technical Training priorities.
Ensure application of processes, quality standards and ways of working at the Hoylake training centre providing all delegates with a consistent experience of craft training.
Work closely with SPEN Resourcing team & HR Workforce Programmes team to ensure Technical Training have short, medium and longer terms plans in place for people, facilities and processes to deliver the range of accredited trainee programmes required to ensure the pipeline of future talent required as part of business Workforce Renewal programme.
Provide consultancy support on craft technical issues to all SP business customers to ensure best solution developed and delivered.
Responsibilities

Line / performance manage the craft trainers at Hoylake

Manage development of trainers and an annual upskill plan to provide a flexible pool inline with future business needs, carry out trainer observations and other processes as required to maintain highest standards of delivery, assessment and user engagement

Review course evaluations and take actions on any feedback around delivery improvements

Ensure safe working practices on all courses the craft trainers deliver and ensure regular safety audits completed, and issues actioned

Work closely with Technical Training planning teams to ensure appropriate planning of all resources and that all necessary factors are considered for smooth event delivery, ensuring course matrix reflects correct skills, plant & facilities requirements

Work closely with SPEN Resourcing / Workforce Renewals team to understand future requirements

To anticipate and plan required resource, skills and facilities to deliver training programmes that support the overall SPEN resourcing strategy related to roles, locations and timelines.

Work closely with above team and HR Resourcing / Workforce Programmes team to influence & support the contents & structure of all trainee programmes taking account of knowledge of technical business procedures, business role requirements, delegate feedback and knowledge of learning styles

Ensure Technical Training deliver on our responsibilities in order that all trainees achieve the required standards for their specific qualification including assessments, documentation and audits

Work with wider Technical Training and Learning teams to provide technical expertise input on course content and the design of new required solutions and redesign of existing Craft courses

Work with SPEN senior managers on requirements for business trainer “pool” support and manage the provision of that support

Work closely with General Services to ensure the Training Centre is developed and improved in line with future business requirements & standards

Ensure that relevant Technical Training processes are understood and adhered to, working closely with Quality Analyst on opportunities for continuous improvement & process development. Manage internal audits as required and support wider Learning audits.

Liaise with SPEN Engineering Services team on any impacts of asset changes to training delivery, ensuring that training procedures relate to current business process and aproactively managed relationship

Carry out scoping of technical training requests to understand customer need and influence most apt training solution
Skills and Requirements

HNC qualification in a technical discipline OR HND qualification in the field of human resources, or the educational planning and delivery sectors OR experience in a suitable business role

Experienced in the line management of large diverse teams

Knowledge of the end-to-end training cycle from assessment of need, planning & logistics, appropriate delivery styles to support learning styles, and evaluation techniques and processes

Knowledge of craft apprenticeship and other trainee programmes, including award criteria

Knowledge of other technical training courses and related Health & Safety authorisations delivered by the Technical Training team
