As a Design Engineer you will develop and deliver civil engineering solutions across the SP Transmission Network. This includes the necessary basic and detailed engineering and effective technical support throughout the lifecycle of the projects.
You will be working on a portfolio of projects in the ScottishPower core projects team, and will be contributing to the UK Next Zero Target.
What you’ll be doing
- Perform all duties with a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environment compliance, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Advise on the development of pre-contract design and delivery of projects by supporting the geotechnical aspects of SPTs civil engineering works.
- Prepare basic and detailed engineering specifications for civil engineering works including earthworks, concrete foundations, access roads, steel structures, drainage and buildings associated with the SP Transmission network.
- Define civil engineering requirements for input to System Construction Authorisation (SCA) and tender documentation.
- Provide technical assessment of tender submissions and report recommendations.
- Prepare civil engineering designs including drawings, calculations, models etc.
- Ensure civil engineering designs and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
- Provide technical support to Project Unit teams on matters concerning the design and construction of civil/structural elements of the works.
- Maintain an awareness of technological advances and industry best practice. Assist with evaluation and apply ‘new ideas’, technical developments, new equipment and alternative-working methods to provide cost savings, efficiencies and improved safety.
- Contribute to training needs assessment for new products and standards etc and the development and delivery of technical, construction and safety training packages.
- Liaise across multi disciplinary engineering teams to provide integrated solutions for SP Transmission.
What you’ll bring
- Degree in Civil, Structural or other related Engineering discipline or HND with relevant experience.
- Knowledge of civil engineering design required for electrical network transmission and distribution projects (earthworks, substation platforms, access roads, foundations etc).
- Experience working with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Autodesk AEC suite, Staad Pro, TEDDS, Microdrainage etc).
- Good inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships with other individuals, departments and businesses.
- Knowledge of health & safety requirements, in particular, compliance and CDM Designer/Principal Designer roles.
