Salary from £55,200 to £69,000 + up to 15% Bonus and Private Medical care

Help us create a better future, quicker. Support the Sustainability Manager in delivering, implementing, and managing the Sustainability Strategy within SP Transmission, aligned with the T3 business plan. Provide subject-specific expertise in the development and integration of Natural Capital and Biodiversity initiatives across the business. Lead the organisation and facilitation of internal and external engagement activities to advance strategic nature-related goals. Identify and foster collaborations with key partner organisations and drive innovation projects that address gaps and enable transformative progress in business sustainability. Champion the integration of environmental and social considerations into core business processes, ensuring these principles are embedded across operations.

Supporting delivery of the Sustainability and Environmental commitments within the RIIO-T2 £1.8bn and T3 £11bn Capex programmes:

  • To the required timescales agreed in the business plan
  • Setting strategy plans with all key stakeholders to ensure commitments are met
  • Highlighting and addressing any blockers to achieving the commitments to management

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the SPT Nature team to ensure the successful delivery of SP Transmission’s nature-related commitments and obligations under the T3 business plan.
  • Performance Monitoring: Support the Sustainability Manager in tracking progress against nature-related delivery plans. Identify any delays or gaps, report these to the SPT Executive Team, and propose effective remedial actions.
  • Embedding Sustainability Culture: Assist in developing a long-term sustainability culture across SPT by working closely with operational, investment, and corporate teams. Contribute to the design and delivery of training, awareness initiatives, and coaching to embed responsible business practices.
  • Project Delivery: Manage biodiversity enhancement projects on behalf of the Sustainability Manager to improve environmental performance and strengthen SPT’s reputation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Promote the sustainability agenda by providing comprehensive support to internal and external stakeholders. Represent SPT in working groups and effectively communicate the organisation’s approach to nature and sustainability.
  • Leadership in Working Groups: Lead both standing and ad-hoc working groups focused on specific sustainability topics. Collaborate across SPEN, SP, and Iberdrola, as well as with external stakeholders.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide research and analysis to support the Sustainability and Community Engagement Director and the Sustainability Manager. Translate emerging issues and developments into actionable plans and meaningful measures for the wider business.
  • Strategic Innovation: Identify areas requiring additional action to meet sustainability goals. Propose solutions through process improvements or the adoption of new technologies, working collaboratively with internal and external partners.

What you’ll bring:

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, ideally complemented by or working towards a postgraduate qualification in sustainability, environmental management, or business management.
  • Strong awareness of sustainability requirements specific to electricity network operators.
  • Proven experience in leading specialist teams and delivering cross-functional initiatives across the business.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise, negotiate, and influence stakeholders at senior levels.
  • In-depth understanding of current developments and emerging trends within the sustainability agenda.
  • Robust technical expertise in one or more key sustainability areas, such as sustainable design, planning policy, waste management, carbon and energy, responsible sourcing, water, biodiversity, or building certification.
  • Skilled in training and coaching, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills and a rigorous approach to data management and interpretation.
