As Business Improvements and Channel Development Manager, you will lead the design, delivery, and optimisation of new and existing sales channels across ScottishPower’s Customer Business portfolio.
This role is pivotal in driving commercial growth by embedding scalable processes, enhancing operational efficiency, and enabling high-performing channel activity across all Domestic customer segments. You will oversee the identification and development of new routes to market, while ensuring continuous improvement in channel performance and partner engagement.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will represent the sales function in strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with business priorities and delivering measurable impact.
The position is designed to be flexible, ensuring that development activities remain focused on the highest-value strategic opportunities as directed by the Customer Business Management team.
What you’ll be doing
- Identify, develop and implement new sales channels from concept to launch to support the delivery of sales targets across the full ScottishPower product and service portfolio
- Develop a contact strategy approach to prospect partners/businesses, bespoke to target industries as necessary, with sole responsibility for designing and executing this contact strategy
- Scope channel or partner capability, matching to commercial models to deliver desired results in line with targeted sales volumes and capture costs
- Consult with the Head of Sales, Product Owners, and Directors as necessary in the financial modelling of new sales channels, ensuring all channel activities are value-enhancing to the ScottishPower business and are effectively performance-managed to deliver expectations
- Operationally lead business governance across all development and procurement activities related to the identification of new sales channels and market prospects. This includes guiding internal alignment, ensuring compliance with governance frameworks, and managing stakeholder engagement up to Sales Director and CEO level to secure approval for progression.
- Act as the sales lead for the integration of strategic partnership activities into core sales operations. The role ensures that sales requirements, processes, and objectives are fully represented throughout the development and implementation of strategic partner-led initiatives
- Ensure full implementation of ScottishPower compliance controls and adherence to best practice Standards of Conduct, including all relevant principles, measures, and governance requirements
- Conclude all contract negotiations, offering SP maximum protections across high value, high volume contractual arrangements.
- Work with all relevant internal business units to develop end to end value cases and process design for new business models
- Work with external contacts to MD level of prospect partners to ensure speed to decision making and consolidated buy in at partner level
- Monitor market intelligence and provide insights to inform decision-making, adapting contract strategies as needed to reflect evolving market conditions
- Design, negotiate and contract commercial propositions in line with targeted Cost to Capture requirements as per Budget levels
- Capability to manage a UK wide contact strategy across a number of opportunities simultaneously across a number of industry sectors
- Work with sales channels to implement propositions and deliver supporting materials
- Manage a team of managers to implement solutions
What you’ll bring
- Operational management experience in a Sales or Project Management role, across primarily private sector but also public sector to be considered, utilising multi-channel delivery mechanisms
- In depth understanding of the Energy Industry and low carbon technologies, with the ability to network across the industry
- Effective leadership skills to develop, manage, motivate and inspire a team to become industry leaders.
- Ability to secure new business opportunities across public sector and commercial customers, supporting the development of an effective sales pipeline
- Advanced influencing and relationship management skills given the dependency on internal resources and external third parties for success
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to understand complexity quickly to make decisions with confidence and clarity based on that understanding
- The ability to influence a wide portfolio of stakeholders with differing interests. Requires an elevated level of knowledge, tact and diplomacy, both in written and oral communication, to be seen as credible and to achieve the preferred outcome
- Flexibility and a proactive approach to change are essential, as this role operates within a fast-moving environment shaped by emerging markets, evolving customer expectations, and shifting industry and regulatory landscapes. The ability to adapt to changing business priorities and support the launch of new products and channels is critical to driving strategic success
- Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills
- Change leader with experience of translating change initiatives into results delivery via development initiatives
- External awareness with ability to absorb and use new ideas from outside SP
- Ability to prioritise work and deliver results whilst managing multiple stakeholders
- Ability to launch and monitor new business channels and partnerships as trials through to enduring solutions
- Self- starter who can develop and deploy a successful contact strategy through to contract closure
- Strong organisation, planning and time management skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office especially Excel and MS Access
- Ability to manage relationships with multiple external and internal key stakeholders and suppliers
MINIMUM CRITERIA
- Proven as a strong leader with demonstrable leadership/operational management experience and the ability to lead a team
- Highly numerate and analytical with the ability to understand financial models, forecast and manage budgets
- Sales focused with a strong understanding of the value of service and customer engagement, with a track record of building an effective sales pipeline from prospect to contract
- Strong influencing and stakeholder management ability with a previous working history that includes a high level of verbal communication and ability to influence, persuade and negotiate with Senior Leaders
- In depth understanding of Outsourced Sales Partners or Contractor Management including Partnerships, external Call Centre operations and outsourced Sales Partners & Contractors
- A highly motivated, pro-active individual with proven ability to co-ordinate multiple concurrent activities
- Proficient user of all MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint in order to prepare reports and presentations and carry out data analysis
- Strong organisation and planning skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to manage a plan and work to tight deadlines
