Help us create a better future, quicker. Support the Sustainability Manager in the delivery, implementation, and ongoing management of the SPT Sustainability Strategy. Provide subject-matter expertise to guide the development and integration of sustainability initiatives within SPT Strategic Projects.
Lead and facilitate internal and external engagement activities to advance sustainability objectives across the Strategic Projects portfolio. Identify opportunities for collaboration with key partners and contribute to innovation projects that address gaps and drive measurable improvements in sustainability performance. Champion the integration of environmental and social considerations into core business processes, ensuring these principles are embedded throughout organisational decision-making and operation.
Supporting delivery of the Sustainability and Environmental commitments within the RIIO-T2 £1.8bn and T3 £11bn Capex programmes:
- To the required timescales agreed in the business plan
- Setting strategies plans with all key stakeholders to ensure commitments are met
- Highlighting and addressing any blockers to achieving the commitments to management
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the integration and delivery of sustainability within the SPT Strategic Projects portfolio, ensuring alignment with SP Transmission’s commitments and obligations under the T3 business plan.
- Performance Monitoring: Support the Sustainability Manager in tracking progress against sustainability delivery plans. Identify delays or gaps, escalate to the SPT Executive Team, and recommend effective remedial actions.
- Embedding a Sustainability Culture: Contribute to the development of a long-term sustainability culture across SPT. Collaborate with operational, investment, and corporate teams to design and deliver training, awareness programmes, and coaching that embed responsible business practices.
- Project Delivery: Manage sustainability initiatives within the Strategic Projects portfolio to enhance environmental performance and strengthen SPT’s reputation.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Champion the sustainability agenda by providing expert support to internal and external stakeholders. Represent SPT in working groups and clearly communicate the organisation’s sustainability approach within strategic projects.
- Leadership in Working Groups: Lead both standing and ad-hoc working groups focused on specific sustainability topics. Collaborate across SPEN, SP, and Iberdrola, and engage with external stakeholders to drive progress.
- Technical Expertise: Conduct research and analysis to support the Sustainability and Community Engagement Director and the Sustainability Manager. Translate emerging issues and developments into actionable plans and meaningful measures for the wider business.
- Strategic Innovation: Identify areas requiring additional action to meet sustainability goals. Propose solutions through process improvements or the adoption of new technologies, working collaboratively with internal and external partners.
What you’ll bring
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, ideally complemented by or working towards a postgraduate qualification in sustainability, environmental management, or business management.
- Strong awareness of sustainability requirements specific to electricity network operators.
- Proven experience in leading specialist teams and delivering cross-functional initiatives across the business.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise, negotiate, and influence stakeholders at senior levels.
- In-depth understanding of current developments and emerging trends within the sustainability agenda.
- Robust technical expertise in one or more key sustainability areas, such as sustainable design, planning policy, waste management, carbon and energy, responsible sourcing, water, biodiversity, or building certification.
- Skilled in training and coaching, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical skills and a rigorous approach to data management and interpretation.
