As a Grid and Regulation Senior Analyst at ScottishPower Renewables, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and supporting the company’s grid and regulatory strategy across the UK and Ireland. You will support all charging-related activities—both Distribution and Transmission—ensuring SPR. This role requires a strong understanding of grid charging mechanisms, ancillary services, and regulatory frameworks. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to influence policy, support project development, and communicate key regulatory themes to senior leadership.

Reporting directly to the Grid & Regulation Manager, this role is primarily focused on providing expert oversight on grid policy to support Grid Analysts in delivering connection applications. The applicant will be responsible for leading the commercial analysis of ScottishPower Renewables’ full portfolio—across all technologies, both onshore and offshore—spanning projects in development, construction, and operation within the UK and Ireland.

Key responsibilities include managing charging analysis and connection policy to support senior management, as well as preparing and presenting investment committee papers for approval on a range of grid and regulatory initiatives. The role also involves active participation in policy reform, including shaping the reformed national pricing framework. This includes contributing to code modifications, supporting task force activities, and advancing SPR’s OpTIC proposal.

You are responsible for operator engagement across the UK and Ireland, focusing on charging matters and service contracts. This work supports SPR’s growth targets in both connections and revenue generation. A key part of your role involves preparing and presenting proposals to SPR’s Investment Committee, covering technical and commercial aspects such as grid charging forecasts, due diligence, and BM Reviews.

You also manage financial control submissions related to grid charging forecasts and revenues, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business requirements. In addition, you design and deliver training packages on topics such as industry codes, charging statements, ESO publications, securities, liabilities, and connection processes. Finally, you play a key role in shaping the national pricing framework, with a focus on operational and siting signals. You also lead SPR’s lobbying efforts, particularly in advancing the internally developed OpTIC charging modification CMP433.

  • Degree in engineering (electrical or mechanical) is preferred but not essential if the candidate can demonstrate knowledge and experience of the grid connection process; other degree disciplines will be considered.
  • The jobholder will be expected to have a sound knowledge and understanding of the grid regulatory framework, particularly the Connection and Use of System Code (and related codes), a sufficient relevant appreciation of the GB Grid and European Network Codes and an overall understanding of the UK and Ireland regulatory and code governance framework.
  • Experience and proven ability to support and develop collaboration with internal departments including Project Delivery, Operations, O&M Services, Commercial Development, Global Energy Management, Policy, Risk & Assurance and Legal in support of grid and regulatory processes.
  • Commercial awareness and negotiation skills essential.
  • Exceptional financial / analytical skills and commercial acumen.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing and interfacing effectively with cross-functional internal groups of all levels and competencies.
  • Experience in performing and interpreting complex financial analysis to enable data and information to be presented to executive brief standard.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and time management skills.
  • Ability to develop relationships to analyse business challenges and opportunities.
  • Ability to prepare and analyse substantial reports, including weekly/monthly updates, whilst also able to manage adhoc requests.
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting timelines/deadlines.
  • Ability to work across the organisation with a multi-disciplinary team, with range of peers or “out of line” personnel to achieve outcomes/results.
