Purpose
Reporting to the Overhead Line Design Manager, you will develop and deliver engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design for Transmission networks projects (132kV and above). Responsible for projects of greater value and complexity within the portfolio whilst managing/supervising and developing less experienced staff within the department or project team, you will provide necessary basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for projects, innovation, effective technical support, advice, coaching and input throughout the lifecycle of a portfolio of projects.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the development of pre-contract design and delivery of projects by leading the technical aspects of OHL systems and all other associated equipment, you will perform all duties with and promote internally and externally, a strong emphasis on Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental compliance and continuous improvement. Assessing Engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance with client requirements, supporting the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects, you will recommend Construction and Outage programmes where required in relation to OHL circuits. Preparing basic and detailed Engineering specifications for OHL system designs and costs for high value, complex or business critical projects, you will drive resolution of statutory, land or other consents regarding OHL routes. Providing technical assessment of tender submissions and reporting recommendations to the client, you will define OHL equipment requirements for input to System Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and BETTA documentation. Preparation/review of OHL drawings and technical specifications for Construction, Procurement or other stakeholders, you will control correspondence and drawings to be issued to the Project Delivery and Pre-Contract teams, ensuring specifications, OHL system designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements. Carrying out tender assessment of OHL works (including suppliers), support to project management on the assessment of bids, you will provide technical support to the Pre-Contract and Project Delivery teams on matters concerning the Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance of OHL systems and other associated equipment.
What you’ll bring
Educated to Engineering degree or HND/HNC with equivalent experience, you will possess experience in PLS-CADD and other OHL software. With significant experience in delivering Engineering solutions and designs for high value and complex Transmission OHL projects, you will possess proven abilities to communicate with and influence Senior Managers, write clear and concise reports and documents covering technical subjects. Undertaking short trips away from home as required, you will possess flexibility in working hours to meet requirements of the job.
