As a Senior Telecoms Engineer within the Telecoms function of SP Energy Networks, you will provide effective support in the design, maintenance, and cost-efficiency of the operational telecom infrastructure. You will report to the Strategic Telecoms Design and Standards Manager.
What you’ll be doing
- You will act as the design authority on behalf of internal customers and liaise with Telecom service providers and internal delivery teams to meet strategic business goals.
- You will interpret Telecoms requests and provide solutions that meet Telecoms strategy, identify new technologies and support regulatory submissions identifying efficiencies that can be made whilst meeting regulatory outputs.
- Perform all duties in support of SP Energy Networks Operational Excellence goals & other business drivers, ensuring health, safety, quality and environmental aspects at all times:
- Support Solutions Architect’s in complex design of new solutions for the Strategic Telecoms Network
- Create relevant Engineering Policies for Telecoms solutions – Installation standards, Testing Regimes, Routine Maintenance Instruction
- Ensure Telecoms policies are being always adhered to
- Engage with 3rd Party Vendors to understand product portfolios available
- Present new technologies to the business to meet strategic goals
- Undertake trial and testing of new technologies to meet business applications
- Support the Design and Standards Manager with Telecoms strategy/roadmap for submission to regulator as part of price controls.
- Support the procurement lifecycle of the main telecommunication contracts
What you’ll bring
- Academic qualification of degree level (or equivalent) in a technical subject such as electrical, electronic or telecommunication engineering and a Full Drivers Licence.

You should possess good presentation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present, leverage, and influence internal stakeholders and customers. As a self-starter with a clear can-do mentality, you will work under pressure from both customers and internal stakeholders, producing solution designs that are profitable, deliverable, and scalable. You will have a sound understanding of best practices in design methodology, telecoms business processes, and products, and can quickly learn and master new skills and products or platforms.
