Purpose
Ensuring a reliable and efficient grid that supports the UK’s Net Zero targets, you will define, approve and monitor asset management strategies and policies for Protection Systems across the Transmission and Distribution Networks, aligned with SP Energy Network’s Asset Management objectives. Providing technical input to the development and continuous improvement of Protection asset risk and performance methodologies, you will define Protection investment need cases and support regulatory submissions for Protection Systems.
Responsibilities
- Providing governance oversight for Protection policies, ensuring consistent application across Transmission and Distribution and alignment with SP Energy Network’s asset management framework.
- Defining and governing the asset data framework for Protection systems, supporting effective policy implementation, risk assessment and long-term planning.
- Supporting the digitalisation of Protection Systems, including IEC 61850 architectures whilst supporting the development of asset data models and information systems.
- Leading the review of Protection faults and failures, articulating lessons learned and remediation actions in a consistent manner.
- Working collaboratively with Operations, Planning, Cyber Security, Telecoms and Standards teams to ensure Protection strategies are deliverable, compliant and technically robust.
- Representing SP Energy Networks in industry and Government forums on Protection Systems.
What you’ll bring
To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate (as minimum) your degree education in a relevant Engineering discipline. With expert knowledge of Protection Systems for electrical networks, including the use of IEC 61850, you will possess good knowledge of protection setting co-ordination. Experienced in working with UK Transmission and Distribution owners, you will understand asset management systems and the ISO 55000 framework, with further understanding of regulatory requirements impacting SP Energy Networks, particularly NIS regulations.
