Purpose
SP Energy Networks (SPEN) are working to achieve network targets set by the Scottish and UK Government as part of our journey to Net Zero. Our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. SPEN is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity and increasingly, renewable electricity – safely, securely, and sustainably in the communities we serve.
As Community Benefits Manager within SPEN’s Stakeholder and Communications team, you will develop and own the company’s Community Benefits Framework (c. £250m in RIIO-T3). Developing and maintaining processes for effective distribution of funding through robust and effective mechanisms, you will be a key liaison with Corporate support functions, knowing how to use these functions to maximise reputational benefit.
Responsibilities
- Developing a Community Benefits proposal (c. £250m) for the RIIO-T3 business plan period, ensuring internal and external buy-in, you will ensure proposals are in line with government and regulator guidance, evidencing compliance and robust governance procedures.
- Managing, co-ordinating and delivering the Community Benefit Framework across a broad and inclusive range of key stakeholders and local community groups, you will be required to develop appropriate stakeholder forums, meetings and special events that support outperformance of Community Benefit objectives.
- Managing, identifying and delivering stakeholders with the purpose of understanding priorities and reflecting in upcoming plans, you will continually review stakeholder and customer mapping across SP Transmission to ensure engagement activity is targeted and inclusive.
- Driving an active engagement strategy, leveraging the market using technical expertise, stakeholder experience and communication skills to implement low carbon and innovation initiatives, you will ensure that Community Benefits activity is maintained and actively recorded within agreed Corporate systems.
- Working in collaboration with the Central Stakeholder & Communications team to implement appropriate communications and engagement strategies whilst ensuring continual improvement by responding to any stakeholder and customer satisfaction research, analysis and feedback, you will develop engagement plans that support the delivery of financial, regulatory and business plan objectives, optimising any return through regulatory incentive mechanisms, integrating innovative solutions where appropriate.
What you’ll bring
You will be a strong leader with good inter-personal skills, taking a solution-based approach to problem-solving with the ability to be reactive and flexible. Due to the level of stakeholder engagement, you will be able to influence and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
As a Manager, it is essential that you are strong communicator (written, verbal and presentation), be able to effectively motivate and have excellent organisation and planning skills to direct a team. To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate (as minimum) your experience and knowledge of the UK utilities market and regulatory environment including Network Regulation - RIIO model.
With proven commercial awareness across the energy sector and your understanding of key business drivers and context in which SP Energy Networks operates, you will be able to display your proven track record of effective stakeholder and customer engagement and management. Qualified to degree level, or equivalent with relevant experience, you will possess experience developing and delivering written communications for both internal and external audiences, utilising your ability to plan, organise and deliver internal / external engagement plans, ensuring that the plans maintain momentum and achieve objectives within tight deadlines.
Actively managing, developing and delivering across a range of communication channels (intranet, website, webinars, events, printed materials, videos etc), that support our engagement in the delivery of strategic objectives, you will have excellent leadership, communication and inter-personal skills to motivate and influence Managers and staff at all levels, with the ability to communicate complex subjects at all audience levels. Being familiar with data collection and analysis techniques, you will bring your effectively influence to deliver business strategic objectives, devise solutions to complex problems / challenges from a comparable Managerial role.
As a team player, you will have a flexible attitude, good inter-personal skills and availability to travel as required across the licence area and UK, when appropriate.
