Waking Night Support Worker - Adults Learning Disabilities
Pay Rate: £12.90 per hour | Nights | Full-time (42 hrs) & Part-time (20 hrs) available
Make a Real Difference, Every Day
We're looking for an experienced, compassionate Support Worker to provide dedicated one-to-one support to an adult with learning disabilities in Droylsden, whose support needs include behaviours of concern. Nights can be when anxiety, restlessness or distress are at their highest. Your steady, consistent presence will help them feel safe, rest well, and wake up ready for the day ahead.
You’ll need the confidence, patience, and consistency to support someone through both good days and harder ones, always with dignity, choice, and their long-term wellbeing at the centre of what you do.
About The Role
You’ll work awake overnight in the person’s own home, following an individualised support plan and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework. You’ll help the person we support to:
- Settle into a calm, consistent bedtime routine and sleep as well as possible
- Feel safe and reassured if they wake, feel anxious or become unsettled during the night
- Manage distress or behaviours of concern using a calm, trauma-informed, non-reactive approach
- Have their dignity and privacy respected at all times, including during night-time personal care
- Start each morning positively, supported by a smooth and well-documented handover
Key Responsibilities
- Stay awake and alert throughout your shift, carrying out agreed checks and observations in line with the support plan
- Support the bedtime and overnight routine in a way that reflects the person’s preferences
- Recognise early signs of anxiety or distress and respond with de‑escalation, keeping restrictive practice to a minimum
- Follow the support plan, risk assessments and PBS plan consistently
- Provide personal care during the night where required, always with dignity and respect
- Support medication administration in line with policy
- Keep the home safe and secure, and respond calmly and appropriately to incidents or emergencies
- Complete accurate, timely records and give clear handovers to the day team
- Work closely with family members, healthcare professionals and the wider team
What We’re Looking For
- Experience supporting people with learning disabilities, autism or behaviours of concern
- Understanding of PBS and trauma-informed practice
- Strong de‑escalation, communication and observation skills
- A calm, patient approach, and confidence working independently and staying alert through the night
- Reliability and strong professional boundaries, as this person benefits from consistency
- Experience with personal care where required
- A genuine belief in the person’s right to choice, dignity and independence
Previous waking night experience is helpful but not essential. We’ll support the right person with training.
What We Offer
- Paid induction and training, including PBS‑specific training for this role
- Funded Health & Social Care Diplomas (Level 2-5)
- Blue Light Card discounts
- Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
- Cycle to Work Scheme
- Enhanced Family Leave
- 28 Days Annual Leave (pro‑ratad for part‑time hours)
- Career progression opportunities
