Purpose of the role
This role acts as a dedicated Finance Business Partner, providing financial control, rigorous scrutiny of business cases, and strategic support to operating functions. You will drive the planning and forecasting processes while ensuring transparent reporting and cost management to support the broader Finance Transformation.
Your responsibilities
- Provide finance support & challenge to the operating functions
- Be the first point of financial control for these teams, including spend vs budget, approving purchase orders, approving the recruitment
- Report on YTD spend versus budget and work with these Directors to identify mitigating actions for any forecast overspends
- Play a key role in the financial planning process, including forecasting, budgeting and the strategic five-year plan
- Build good working relationships with these teams and understand both their short-term goals and longer-term objectives - act as a right business partner across the complete breadth of their activities, assessing the financial impact of decisions being taken and challenging where appropriate
- Evaluate business cases for extended scope/new activities proposed for Transform; provide financial scrutiny, challenge and recommendations
- Ensure that model for recharging Transform costs to the OpCos is kept up-to-date and operate a no-surprises culture with the OpCo Finance Teams
- Support the more comprehensive Finance Transformation project
- Financial control for Transform Core functions - ensure that spend follows the correct approval flows, and is understood and clearly reported to functional Directors and Finance Director.
- Play a key role (as part of Finance Business Partnering Team) in producing regular forecasts and in the annual budget process
- Ensuring that all business cases for new work have been rigorously analysed and challenged
- Take an active role in the wider Finance Team; promote best practice and support continuous improvement
Your skills, experience and qualifications
- University degree in Finance, Economics or equivalent
- Minimum Part Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent)
- Financial evaluation, influencing, decision making, business acumen
- The ability to build excellent working relationships across multiple teams and locations
- Strong communication skills
- Confidence in challenging senior stakeholders when appropriate
- Excellent Excel skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team, as circumstances require
- Business Partnering experience (even if gained outside of a business partnering role)
- Knowledge of Finance Operations (P2P, RTR, OTC etc.) would be an advantage
