Who we are
We’re the people behind the global loyalty currency, Avios, and home to three ambitious, growing businesses; IAG Loyalty, BA Holidays and The Wine Flyer . Each business has its own goals and strategy, but collectively we create brilliant experiences for our global customers.
We’re on a truly exciting journey of growth and transformation – we’re going places! This is where you come in.
The opportunity
You’ll be the Technical Lead for our Reward Platform, leading a team of Software Engineers to design, develop and maintain a large-scale eCommerce platform. Reporting to an Engineering Manager, you’ll execute the roadmap, support product goals, and deliver value for customers, partners, and the business.
Our platforms connect millions of customers to over 125 global partners, enabling seamless and reliable experiences to collect and spend Avios.
What you’ll get up to
You will be leading a team of Software Engineers to define the technical vision and strategy for the product in collaboration with the Club Architect and the Product Manager. Your role extends to collaborating with various teams to deliver a robust, scalable product that meets our business needs and ensuring that the live product operates safely and meets DORA targets.
You’ll provide essential technical leadership and guidance across the full stack, front-end and microservices, mentor junior team members, and ensure successful execution of our product roadmap. Your leadership and mentoring will foster a collaborative work environment and ensure your team remains up to date with industry trends. Your contribution will be invaluable to our team and the success of our product.
What we need from you
- Experience leading multiple agile teams of software engineers to design, develop and maintain large-scale e-commerce systems.
- Experience using cutting-edge technologies such as TypeScript, React, Node, Java Core SpringBoot, micro frontend, serverless, event-driven applications.
- Proficiency in AWS cloud services and familiarisation with IaC tooling for managing cloud infrastructure.
- Commitment to code quality and maintainability, adhering to principles for readability, modularity and simplicity.
- In-depth knowledge of best practices for rapid and reliable software releases, including automation of build, test and deployment processes.
- Experience with container technologies like Docker and can navigate container orchestration systems, such as ECS.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex issues and develop innovative solutions.
- Experience working with agile product teams and methodologies.
- Collaborate with architects to ensure the technical design of the systems aligns with the company’s architectural vision and best practices.
- Excellent communication skills, fostering effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
- Some experience in people management, including hiring, training, and performance management.
The role has a blended base, between our Central London office and home. We trust you to make the right decision about the type of work that is best done in each location. We expect you’ll achieve a 50/50 split between the two and there may be times where you’ll want to visit our other locations to tell their stories, too (fully reimbursed).
We might not be right for you if:
- You only want to focus on your to-do list; we’re a small, high-performing team, we help each other to succeed.
- You value perfection over fast iteration and progress; IAG Loyalty moves fast, we learn and iterate as we go; our environment isn’t right for everyone.
- You’re looking to create but not build; this is an end-to-end role, you need to be comfortable owning your space, from ideation through to delivery and review.
If you think you have what it takes but don’t meet every single point above, please do still apply. We’d love to chat and see if you could be a great fit.
