The role will drive tangible business value through safety, embedding a proactive, data‑led approach that improves operational performance, reduces risk exposure, and enhances regulatory assurance across the network. You will operate as a strategic partner to operational and senior leadership, translating safety data into meaningful insights, influencing decision‑making, and ensuring that safety management systems deliver measurable improvements in performance, compliance, and resilience.

    • Drive data‑led identification of systemic risks, enabling prioritisation of resources and targeted interventions across the network.
    • Embed a proactive safety management approach, shifting from reactive compliance to predictive risk mitigation.
    • Translate safety performance into clear business insights, linking safety outcomes to operational efficiency, cost, and service performance.
    • Act as subject matter expert on Dangerous Goods (DG) matters and provide strategic oversight of DG compliance across IAG Cargo operations, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory frameworks (including IATA, ICAO, and local authority requirements).
  • Safety Performance & Continuous Improvement
    • Lead the development and delivery of a global safety improvement roadmap with clear, measurable outcomes.
    • Use trend analysis and performance data to identify root causes and drive sustainable improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure robust escalation and governance of significant safety risks, maintaining visibility at senior leadership level.
    • Champion a ‘Just Culture’ environment to improve reporting, transparency, and learning across the organisation.
  • Governance, Oversight & Assurance
    • Provide end‑to‑end oversight of the Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring it remains effective, scalable, and aligned to regulatory expectations.
    • Strengthen risk‑based assurance, ensuring audit insights, investigations, and performance data are integrated to drive prioritised action.
    • Deliver executive‑level reporting and dashboards, enhancing transparency and enabling informed decision‑making across the Safety Group and leadership forums.
    • Act as a central point of accountability for safety standards, ensuring consistency, clarity, and applicability across the global operation.
  • Business Integration & Influence
    • Partner with operational, commercial, and functional teams to embed safety into business decision‑making, including infrastructure, transformation, and change initiatives.
    • Lead Management of Change (MoC) from a safety perspective, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated before implementation.
    • Influence and align stakeholders across IAG Operating Companies, ground handling agents, and third parties to ensure consistent safety outcomes across the network.
