IAC Acoustics Company UK Ltd are looking to expand their in-house engineering capabilities with the introduction of an Electrical Design, Controls and Instrumentation Project Engineer to support the company’s growth ambition. IAC’s portfolio includes the design, build and support of gas turbine engine testing and automotive NVH and acoustic testing facilities, with a current growth strategy focusing within the aviation/aerospace market.
In order to continue to grow, IAC are looking to develop in-house EC&I Project engineering to the existing project and design engineering team, based out of the UK offices in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire. Familiarity and understanding of gas turbine engines and Auxiliary power unit operation and aero-industry best practices would be advantageous.
The role involves managing the entire lifecycle of EC&I systems within projects, from conceptual design to commissioning and maintenance, ensuring that all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry regulations.
Core Responsibilities- Design & Development: Leading the conceptual and detailed design of new electrical, control, and instrumentation systems and modifying existing ones. This involves creating technical documentation such as schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, instrument lists, and I/O schedules using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN), developing FAT/SAT schedules where necessary. Leading EC&I design reviews with customers on projects as necessary as part of the wider project design preview process.
- Project Management: Managing EC&I projects from tender to completion, including defining scope, preparing budgets and schedules, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring adherence to timelines and cost constraints.
- System Integration & Commissioning: Building supply chain network and overseeing the installation, testing (FAT/SAT), and commissioning of new control systems or upgrades, and troubleshooting any issues that arise with in service support requirements. Hands on wiring investigations and alterations as necessary.
- System Calibration: Supporting data acquisition system calibration and maintenance activities for new and existing customer sites.
- Standards & Compliance: Ensuring all designs and installations comply with relevant national and international standards, safety regulations (e.g., BS7671, IEC 61508), and customer site specific requirements.
- Risk Management: Conducting comprehensive technical assessments, risk analyses, and HAZOP studies to identify potential hazards and implement safety measures.
- Education: A minimum of an HNC/HND or a degree (BEng/MSc) in Electrical Engineering, Control and Instrumentation, or a related discipline.
- Professional Development: Working towards or having achieved professional registration (Eng Tech, IEng, CEng) is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, control systems, and automation technologies.
- Proficiency in CAD software and potentially other design/simulation tools.
- Experience with industrial control systems, networked control systems, and process measurement technologies.
- Familiarity with National Instruments would be advantageous.
- Some experience with hands on troubleshooting and commissioning activities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong team-working skills and the ability to lead or manage teams and projects.
- High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
The role is dynamic, splitting time between office-based design work and on-site activities for installation, testing, troubleshooting and calibration. It may involve occasional travel to various client or supplier locations, both in the UK and Europe. Full driving license is essential for this role. The role will also require routine DBS checks for security clearances.
Salary negotiable depending on experience. Working Hours: Monday to Thursday – 8:30am to 5:15pm and Fridays – finish at 1pm. After 5 years of service an extra 5 days holiday are awarded. Job Types: Full-time, Permanent. Location: Chandlers Ford, Hampshire, United Kingdom.
