Al Ishraaq Pty Ltd, trading as The Hive Early Learning Centre Torquay under the i9 Education group, is seeking a full-time Cook to join our childcare centre team at The Hive Early Learning Centre Torquay. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing day-to-day kitchen operations at the centre and preparing and cooking nutritious meals and snacks for approximately 39–40 children per day across four classrooms. The role requires strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking methods, food safety, hygiene, allergen management and children’s dietary requirements.

Duties include:

  • Preparing and cooking nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with centre menus and nutritional guidelines;
  • Checking the quality of food and ingredients before preparation and service;
  • Preparing, seasoning, portioning and presenting meals suitable for children;
  • Using appropriate cooking methods and regulating temperatures of ovens, cooktops and other kitchen equipment;
  • Assisting with menu planning and providing input into seasonal menu changes;
  • Estimating food requirements and managing food ordering, stock control and kitchen supplies;
  • Preparing meals for children with allergies, intolerances and special dietary requirements;
  • Receiving, checking and safely storing food deliveries;
  • Maintaining food safety, hygiene and kitchen compliance procedures;
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant food safety standards and centre policies;
  • Safely using, cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment;
  • Keeping the kitchen, pantry and food storage areas clean, safe and organised;
  • Liaising with educators and centre staff regarding children’s dietary needs and meal service;
  • Maintaining accurate kitchen, cleaning and food safety records as required.

Requirements:

  • AQF Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or equivalent qualification/experience;
  • Experience working as a Cook, preferably in a childcare, aged care, health care or similar setting;
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and allergen management requirements;
  • Ability to plan, prepare and cook nutritious meals for children;
  • Ability to work independently and manage daily kitchen operations;
  • Strong organisation, time management and communication skills;
  • Ability to comply with workplace health and safety and centre policies.
