This is a key position within our business; we are looking for the right individual to help build our DevOps and Full Stack capability and offering across our i3Works business.

Overview: i3Works is a dynamic P3M and Digital consultancy delivering high-impact outcomes across central government and complex programmes. As we continue to expand our digital capability, we are investing in strengthening our delivery of modern software engineering, DevOps, and product-aligned services. This role represents a foundational hire within our SDLC and engineering capability, providing the opportunity to shape how i3Works approaches end-to-end software delivery—from design through to implementation and live service.

Role Summary: The SDLC Consultant / Lead will act as a subject matter expert across the full software development lifecycle, combining hands-on technical capability with consulting expertise. This individual will:

  • Act as the first senior engineering capability hire, shaping internal standards and offerings
  • Deliver into client environments in roles aligned to DevOps, Full Stack, or SDLC improvement
  • Support the development of a scalable capability, including frameworks, accelerators, and potential future team growth
  • Exhibit an entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build capability from the ground up
  • Be comfortable operating as a sole specialist initially, with a view to scaling
  • Be adaptable and delivery-focused across varied client environments
  • Be collaborative and aligned with i3Works values and culture

The role blends:

  • Technical delivery (hands-on engineering where required)

Key Responsibilities:

Client Delivery:
  • Deliver into client roles across DevOps, Full Stack Engineering, or SDLC transformation
  • Design and implement modern development, CI/CD, and deployment practices
  • Support cloud-based delivery environments (e.g. AWS, Azure)
  • Improve development lifecycle efficiency, quality, and governance
  • Engage stakeholders to align technical delivery with programme outcomes
Capability Development:
  • Define and evolve i3Works’ SDLC / engineering service offering
  • Develop reusable assets (patterns, playbooks, accelerators)
  • Shape delivery approaches across DevOps and Full Stack domains
  • Contribute to business development and solution design
Internal Contribution:
  • Mentor and support colleagues developing technical capability
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of future engineers
  • Contribute to internal initiatives and continuous improvement

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Strong experience across software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices
  • Proven delivery in DevOps environments (CI/CD, IaC, automation)
  • Experience with full stack development (front-end + back-end technologies)
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or equivalent)
  • Experience working in Agile / product-led environments
  • Ability to operate in both technical and consulting contexts
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in UK public sector or secure environments
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps, platform engineering, or SRE practices
  • Experience defining capability or service offerings
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as DDAT, GDS, or similar
  • Relevant certifications (cloud, DevOps, Agile, etc.)
  • Experience contributing to business development or bids

Role Location: This role is a full-time position (40 hours/5 days a week). Our consultants are expected to work in a hybrid environment, in accordance with our clients. We require our people to be within an easily commutable distance of our Bristol office and to be able to co-locate at our client locations, which are typically 50 miles of Bristol or along the M4 corridor. New clients are always coming on board, and we require our consultants to be able to work flexibly and wherever this work requires.
