About the Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Developer / Solutions Architect to join a specialist organisation on an initial six-month contract. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining hands-on development with technical leadership and wants to play a key role in modernising data, integrations and business processes.
The primary focus of the role is ownership and development of the organisation's enterprise Data Warehouse, building new data integrations and delivering automation solutions using the Microsoft technology stack. While solution architecture forms part of the role, the emphasis is on someone who can design and deliver technical solutions rather than purely producing architectural documentation.
Working closely with business stakeholders, you'll help improve reporting, automate manual processes and ensure data is reliable, accessible and fit for strategic decision-making.
What You'll Be Doing
- Data Warehouse & Data Integration
- Take technical ownership of the enterprise Data Warehouse, driving its ongoing development and improvement.
- Design, develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and integrations across business-critical systems.
- Build and optimise data models that support reporting, analytics and business intelligence.
- Ensure high standards of data quality, governance and performance.
- Support reporting solutions using Power BI and other analytical tools.
- Work with stakeholders to identify new reporting requirements and data opportunities.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation including data models, architecture diagrams and data dictionaries.
- Automation & Application Development
- Design and develop business applications, APIs and system integrations.
- Build automation solutions using Microsoft Power Automate and PowerApps.
- Identify opportunities to replace manual processes with scalable digital workflows.
- Support the adoption of Microsoft 365 capabilities, including Copilot and Power Platform technologies where appropriate.
- Develop secure, maintainable solutions that follow software development best practices.
- Solution Architecture
- Provide technical guidance across applications, integrations and data platforms.
- Produce solution designs and architecture documentation where required.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, secure and aligned with wider technology objectives.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements where appropriate.
- Work closely with business users to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Collaborate with third-party suppliers and technical partners.
- Provide technical leadership across development and change initiatives.
- Share knowledge and promote best practice within the wider team.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Strong commercial experience in software development and solution design.
- Proven experience designing, developing and supporting enterprise Data Warehouses.
- Excellent SQL and database development skills.
- Experience building ETL/ELT processes and integrating data from multiple systems.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure data services.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including:
- Power Automate
- Power Apps
- Power BI
- Experience developing APIs and system integrations.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 services and architecture.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience working within regulated or governance-driven environments.
Desirable
- Experience within insurance, financial services or other regulated industries.
- Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric or Synapse Analytics.
- Experience with AI-enabled automation and Microsoft technologies.
During the initial contract you'll be expected to:
- Take ownership of the organisation's Data Warehouse and establish a clear technical roadmap.
- Deliver new data integrations that improve reporting and business insight.
- Build practical automation solutions that reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency.
- Improve integration across business systems and Microsoft 365.
- Introduce technical standards and documentation that improve supportability and scalability.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation to enhance business processes.
