We are seeking an experienced Principal Cyber Security Engineer to lead the development of cyber security solutions for advanced automotive systems. This role focuses on vehicle cyber security and embedded systems, rather than traditional IT security, supporting the delivery of safe, secure, and compliant automotive products.
The Role
- As a Principal Cyber Security Engineer, you will work across systems, software, hardware, and electronics teams to ensure products meet the latest automotive cyber security and safety requirements.
- You will play a key role in developing security concepts, analysing risks, and guiding engineering teams through the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead automotive cyber security activities in line with ISO 21434 and related standards.
- Perform cyber security risk assessments including TARA (Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment).
- Support safety and security analysis activities, including FMEA, FTA and related studies.
- Develop and review security concepts, requirements, and technical solutions for vehicle systems.
- Collaborate with systems, software, hardware and supplier teams to ensure secure product delivery.
- Support customer reviews and technical discussions relating to cyber security.
- Contribute to engineering processes, governance, and continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure project deliverables are achieved in line with programme milestones.
About You
- You will have a degree qualification in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in automotive cyber security, embedded systems, or vehicle electronics.
- Knowledge of ISO 21434, vehicle cyber security engineering, and security risk assessment methodologies.
- Understanding of systems engineering principles and the V-model development lifecycle.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with ISO 26262 Functional Safety.
- Experience with MBSE methodologies and systems modelling tools.
- Knowledge of automotive development processes such as ASPICE or ISO 15288.
- Experience working with OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, or automotive technology consultancies.
- Exposure to connected vehicles, autonomous systems, EV platforms, or advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
