This role will take ownership of payroll, employee relations, case management, and HR processes, ensuring that issues are managed in a structured and consistent way. A strong focus will be placed on supporting and coaching managers to follow best practice, make sound decisions, and apply company procedures correctly. The HR Manager will also have responsibility for managing and developing the HR team, ensuring a consistent, high‑quality approach to HR delivery across the business. Key Responsibilities
- Payroll
- Manage payroll activity in partnership with Finance, ensuring accurate and timely processing
- Ensure all payroll changes (e.g. starters, leavers, contractual changes, absence impacts) are captured and communicated accurately
- Work closely with Finance to resolve queries and ensure alignment between HR data and payroll outputs
- Monitor payroll processes to ensure they are applied consistently and in line with company policies and contractual terms
- Identify and address any issues or discrepancies, ensuring risks are managed appropriately
- Support ongoing improvements to payroll processes, accuracy, and overall efficiency
- HR Management & Employee Relations
- Take ownership of employee relations cases, including: Grievance, Absence management, Capability / performance
- Manage complex and sensitive cases through to resolution
- Ensure all cases are handled in a fair, structured, and consistent manner
- Provide clear, practical HR advice to managers
- Coach and guide managers on applying policies, handling issues, and following best practice
- Ensure a consistent approach is taken across departments
- Coaching & Supporting Line Managers
- Act as a key point of support for managers across the business
- Provide ongoing coaching to help managers: Manage people issues confidently, Apply policies and procedures correctly, Make fair and consistent decisions
- Challenge where needed to ensure decisions align with company standards and best practice
- Build manager capability to reduce risk and improve consistency
- Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with employment law, company policies, and internal processes
- Monitor and support adherence to Working Time Regulations, particularly within operational teams (including out of hours)
- Identify risks and take appropriate action to mitigate them
- Maintain accurate HR records and documentation
- Support audits and ensure processes are legally and operationally robust
- HR Team Management
- Manage and support the HR team in their day‑to‑day responsibilities
- Provide guidance, structure, and oversight to ensure a consistent approach across all HR activity
- Coach and develop team members to improve capability and confidence
- Monitor workload and ensure priorities are managed effectively
- Drive a practical and consistent approach across the HR function
- Business Support & Consistency
- Work closely with the Head of Group HR and managers across all departments
- Support the business in maintaining a fair and consistent approach to people management
- Ensure HR processes are applied consistently across the organisation
- Provide guidance and challenge to support good decision making
- Recruitment & Onboarding
- Support recruitment activity across the business where required
- Maintain oversight of onboarding processes to ensure a smooth transition into the business
- Process & Continuous Improvement
- Review and improve HR processes to increase consistency and efficiency
- Identify areas where processes can be strengthened or simplified
- Support the implementation of systems and tools that improve HR delivery
- Keep HR system/ database up to date
Essential skills we are looking for:
- CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent experience) with a proven track record of navigating in a high-volume, fast-paced operation
- A resilient and tenacious problem solver who stays calm under pressure, holding your own in challenging conversations while maintaining professional boundaries
- In your happy place leading on end-to-end ER cases, providing robust, legally-sound advice on complex disciplinaries, grievances, and long-term absence
