The maintenance fitter is responsible for assisting with the planned and reactive maintenance of site plant and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritise reactive maintenance activities in conjunction with line management and the site’s CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) and attend accordingly.
  • Carry out planned maintenance activities on site plant and equipment in accordance with the sites’ preventative maintenance schedules & CMMS.
  • Fault‑find and diagnose faults on site plant and equipment, utilising technical drawings, manuals, PLC/CNC applications where required.
  • Fault‑find to component level.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of site‑specific project works.
  • Relocate plant and equipment when applicable.
  • Use and operate site‑powered vehicles.
  • Adhere to safe systems of work, including the site’s LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) procedures.
  • Provide on‑the‑job training and guidance to develop F&M apprentice mechanics.
  • Order breakdown parts or spares through the Maintenance office, providing detailed information as required.
  • Work with contractors and suppliers when necessary.
  • Provide temporary Lead Mechanic cover when required.
  • Carry out statutory inspections of plant and machinery.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Completed a recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship (trade papers required).
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and manuals.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
  • Can balance varying workloads and priorities to meet business needs in a fast‑paced and diverse environment.
  • Computer literate and possessing good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Recent mechanical maintenance experience within an industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems.
