A well-established mechanical building services contractor based in Bedford is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager with a strong background in heating, plumbing and gas, and a solid understanding of wider mechanical systems. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team delivering refurbishment and small-to-medium scale projects ranging from £10k–£500k, across sectors such as commercial, healthcare, education, and industrial.
The Mechanical Project Manager will be responsible for managing multiple mechanical projects simultaneously, ensuring each one is delivered safely, profitably, and to a high standard. Responsibilities include:
- Managing mechanical projects from inception to completion
- Overseeing direct labour and appointing subcontractors/temporary staff when required
- Working closely with the Mechanical Manager to coordinate workloads
- Handling material procurement and ensuring best-value purchasing
- Conducting site visits, attending client meetings, and maintaining strong client relationships
- Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company quality standards
- Interpreting consultants’ drawings/specifications and supporting design & build schemes
- Producing detailed take-offs and identifying variations
- Maintaining full financial oversight of allocated projects
- Ensuring successful project handover
- Supporting the site team, including occasional out-of-hours point of contact responsibilities
Experience & Skills:
- Experience in mechanical building services
- Proven track record managing multiple mechanical projects
- Strong knowledge of: HVAC, LTHW / CHW, plantrooms, Ventilation
- Strong leadership qualities and ability to develop and oversee direct labour teams
- Excellent commercial and contractual awareness
- Client-focused with strong communication skills
- Capable of problem-solving and working independently when required
Preferred Qualifications:
- SMSTS
- CSCS Manager/Black Card
- IOSH / NEBOSH
- HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
Additional Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence
- Will be required to pass an enhanced DBS check
