POSITION OVERVIEW:
At I.T.S., we create flavour solutions that help our customers make food and drink people love. To support our continued growth, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Flavourist to help boost our flavour creation team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation, development, and optimisation of flavour systems across a range of applications, supporting customer briefs and driving product innovation. This is a senior technical role requiring strong creative capability, deep knowledge of raw materials, and extensive experience in flavour formulation within the flavour industry.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Flavour Creation & Development: Create innovative liquid and powdered flavour formulations for food, beverage, and health and wellness applications. Interpret customer briefs and translate them into commercially viable flavour solutions. Optimise existing flavour formulas for cost, performance, regulatory compliance, and supply chain stability. Conduct flavour matching and improvement projects.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to flavourists, junior flavourists and flavour technicians. Lead complex customer projects from brief through to final approval. Support cross-functional teams including sales, regulatory, and applications.
- Customer Collaboration: Participate in customer presentations and flavour reviews. Work closely with the commercial team to deliver flavour solutions aligned with market trends and client needs. Provide technical insight during troubleshooting or reformulation projects.
- Innovation & Market Insight: Identify emerging flavour trends, ingredients, and technologies. Contribute to internal innovation pipelines and proactive flavour development. Support development of signature or proprietary flavour systems.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure all formulations meet UK, EU, and international regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate documentation within formulation databases. Support quality and scale-up processes for commercial production.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or related discipline.
- 10+ years’ experience as a flavourist within the flavour industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in flavour creation and matching across multiple applications.
- Strong knowledge of aroma chemicals, essential oils, extracts, and flavour ingredients.
- Experience working with flavour formulation software and databases.
KEY SKILLS:
- Exceptional sensory evaluation, flavour profiling & creative formulation ability.
- Project management and organisational skills.
- Ability to balance creativity with commercial constraints.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Experience supporting international markets.
