Job Overview:

We seek a dedicated Trading Standards Officer to join our team and help ensure fair and legal trading practices within our jurisdiction. The role involves enforcing consumer protection laws, investigating complaints, inspecting businesses, and acting against unfair trading practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Investigations & Compliance:

Enforce laws related to consumer protection, product safety, fair trading, and business practices.
Investigate complaints regarding fraud, misrepresentation, and counterfeit goods.
Carry out inspections of businesses, retail stores, and marketplaces to ensure compliance. Advice & Education:

Guide businesses on trading laws and regulations.
Educate consumers about their rights and how to identify unfair trading practices.
Develop and deliver training materials or workshops for businesses and stakeholders. Enforcement & Legal Action:

Prepare case reports and evidence for potential prosecutions.
Work with legal teams and law enforcement agencies on enforcement actions.
Issue warnings, notices, or penalties to non-compliant businesses. Monitoring & Reporting:

Stay up to date with changes in legislation and industry trends.
Monitor and report on market trends, emerging risks, and fraudulent activities.
Contribute to policy development and enforcement strategies.

Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:

Strong knowledge of consumer protection laws, trading standards legislation, and business regulations.
Excellent analytical and investigative skills.
Strong communication skills for advising businesses and dealing with the public.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and report-writing skills. Desirable:

Degree or qualification in Trading Standards, Law, Business, or a related field.
Experience working in regulatory enforcement, compliance, or a similar role.
