Contract duration: 4+ months

Working hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 36 hours per week

Pay rate: £45 per hour

About the Role:

  • Investigate complaints about alleged breaches of planning control, conducting site visits and collecting evidence.
  • Maintain clear, accurate records and communicate outcomes to complainants and alleged offenders.
  • Draft and serve a variety of enforcement notices, including Planning Contravention and Stop Notices.
  • Conduct interviews in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) where required.
  • Prepare written statements and represent the Council in enforcement appeals, hearings, and court.
  • Provide advice to the public, councillors, and colleagues on enforcement matters.
  • Support the wider planning team and contribute to service-wide projects and continuous improvement.

Essential Criteria:

  • Recent and relevant experience in a local authority or similar public service environment.
  • Experience in investigating planning breaches or enforcement-related work.
  • Knowledge of complaint investigations, evidence gathering, and interviewing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of PACE procedures.
  • A qualification in planning or enforcement.
