Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver financial audit assignments in line with audit plans
  • Evaluate financial controls, risk management, and governance arrangements
  • Prepare clear and accurate audit reports with practical recommendations
  • Provide professional advice to managers on financial controls and compliance
  • Support the development of audit plans and audit methodologies
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to agree audit findings and actions
  • Ensure audit work complies with professional standards and council policies

Person Specification:

Must-Have Requirements:

  • Proven experience in financial auditing, preferably within the public sector
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, risk, and governance frameworks
  • Ability to plan and deliver audits independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

Nice-to-Have Requirements:

  • Experience working within a local authority or similar organization
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g. CIPFA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Experience leading or supervising audit staff
