Responsibilities:
- Carry out all practical horticultural operations to the required standards, including grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, leaf and litter clearance.
- Planting and maintaining bedding plants, shrubs, and trees.
- Pruning, division, and general shrub bed maintenance.
- Application of chemicals safely and according to guidelines.
- Maintenance, marking, and setting out of sports facilities.
- General soft landscaping work, e.g., top-soiling, cultivation, seeding, and shrub-bed renewal.
- Operate and maintain vehicles, plant, and machinery safely and in good working order, complying with Health & Safety and Road Traffic regulations.
- Report any defects in tools, equipment, or vehicles to the line manager.
- Take reasonable care for personal safety and the safety of others; comply with statutory health & safety duties.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, assisting when necessary, and demonstrate flexibility to meet team needs.
- Maintain high standards of work quality, punctuality, and reliability.
- Undertake training and development to enhance skills and knowledge as required.
Person Specification:
Must-Have Requirements:
- NVQ Level 1 in Horticulture (or equivalent) OR a minimum of 2 years’ proven practical experience in grounds maintenance.
- Experience in all practical aspects of horticulture, including grass cutting and operating horticultural machinery.
- Knowledge of mechanical plant/equipment maintenance (or willingness to undertake training).
- Current, full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills (oral and written).
- Physical fitness and stamina to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a flexible approach to work.
Nice-to-Have Requirements:
- Experience in soft landscaping and general horticultural maintenance.
- Knowledge of plant identification and disorders.
- Spraying certificate or experience in chemical application.
- Ability to interpret planting plans and contribute to team improvements.
