Working Hours: 37 Hours Per Week, 09:00 - 13:30

Job Purpose: We are looking for a highly motivated Finance Officer to join Enfield Council's evolving and supportive Corporate Accountancy Team. Following the appointment of a new senior leadership team in Finance, we are reshaping our service to become more proactive, collaborative, and solutions-focused. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to an ambitious finance service that supports all areas of local authority operations. You will report to the VAT Accountant and provide support across various essential corporate finance functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit monthly Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) returns and VAT claims, including accuracy checks and sample testing.
  • Liaise with HMRC to resolve VAT-related queries and ensure compliance.
  • Monitor and report on financial controls to support accountability and good governance.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual Statement of Accounts, working within set timelines and regulations.
  • Provide support and resilience for the maintenance of financial systems.
  • Complete statutory and government returns, ensuring data accuracy and timely submission.
  • Carry out balance sheet and other key reconciliations in line with audit and internal control standards.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing documentation and explanations as required.

About You:

  • Experience working in a finance team, ideally within local government, the wider public sector, or not-for-profit organisations.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and processes.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and confidence in data analysis.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work accurately to tight deadlines.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in corporate accountancy is highly desirable.
