Position: Business Continuity Auditor WCR 3 MID

Location: City Hall 64 Victoria Street, 64 Victoria Street, London, SW1E6QP

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Duration: 3+ Months - 2/3 negotiable

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week

Pay Rate: Β£181.91 per day

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a risk-based audit programme covering Business Impact Assessments (BIAs) and Business Continuity Plans (BCPs).
  • Conduct independent audits against recognised standards, including ISO 22301, BS 65000 and BCI Good Practice Guidelines v7.
  • Assess the quality, accuracy, completeness and practicality of BIAs and BCPs.
  • Produce formal audit reports with clear findings, risk ratings and actionable recommendations.
  • Monitor and validate completion of agreed audit actions and remediation plans.
  • Maintain accurate audit records, evidence and audit trails.
  • Identify recurring issues, control weaknesses and systemic resilience risks, escalating where appropriate.
  • Provide independent assurance and resilience reporting to senior leaders.
  • Review whether documented continuity arrangements reflect actual operational capability.
  • Conduct thematic reviews covering areas such as ICT dependencies, supplier resilience and critical service recovery.
  • Review compliance with internal policies and relevant statutory requirements, including the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
  • Review business continuity exercises and lessons learned, ensuring improvements are implemented.
  • Assess supplier and third-party continuity arrangements.
  • Develop and improve audit methodologies, frameworks and assurance tools.
  • Manage multiple audits simultaneously and deliver work to agreed timescales.
  • Assess organisational resilience maturity and identify opportunities for improvement.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Strong knowledge of ISO 22301, BS 65000 and/or BCI Good Practice Guidelines v7.
  • Proven experience conducting audits, assessments, reviews or quality assurance activities.
  • Practical experience reviewing, developing, testing or evaluating Business Continuity Plans and Business Impact Assessments.
  • Strong understanding of business continuity, organisational resilience and risk management.
  • Ability to analyse complex information and produce clear, evidence-based reports.
  • Experience identifying risks, control weaknesses and improvement opportunities.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to provide independent challenge and assurance to senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent Microsoft 365 skills.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality audit outputs.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Experience within local government, public sector or another complex organisation.
  • Relevant qualification in Business Continuity, Risk Management, Audit or Organisational Resilience.
  • Membership of the Business Continuity Institute (BCI), Institute of Risk Management (IRM) or equivalent professional body.
