We are looking for an experienced and motivated Geotechnical Engineer to join our civil engineering team. This is a key role supporting the Structural Engineering Manager, Contracts Managers, and Site Teams, contributing to projects from tender stage through to construction. You will play an important part in assessing ground risk and mitigation strategies, developing practical geotechnical solutions, coordinating site investigations, and supporting the design of both temporary and permanent works. You will also work closely with operations to develop procedures, testing regimes, and verification reports, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements. This is a broad, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams on challenging civil engineering projects across Scotland and the wider UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the geotechnical aspects of tenders and live projects
  • Reviewing & interpreting geotechnical investigation reports/laboratory testing results to advise on earthworks strategies, foundation solutions, slope stability assessments, and ground improvement proposals.
  • Reviewing earthworks strategies, proposals, performance specifications, etc., that have been developed by the client's team and advising on achievability given site conditions
  • Preparing and reviewing geotechnical design reports, calculations, and technical documentation
  • Scoping, coordinating, and interpreting site investigations
  • Carrying out the roles of design coordinator and temporary works coordinator on specific projects
  • Liaising with Client and Designers at Tender and Construction Phase, including monitoring and reporting of design progress
  • Supporting design reviews and buildability assessments
  • Providing geotechnical advice to site teams throughout construction
  • Identifying geotechnical risks and proposing value-engineered solutions
  • Liaising with clients, designers, consultants, laboratories, and internal teams
  • Contributing to bid submissions, technical proposals, and project methodologies

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or similar
  • Strong geotechnical experience in contractor or consultancy environments
  • Technical knowledge of earthworks, foundations, ground modelling, slope stability, temporary works, and ground improvement
  • Ability to interpret ground investigation data
  • Experience working on large earthworks and infrastructure projects
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Ability to influence design decisions and support project teams
  • Ability to travel to sites across Scotland as and when required.
  • Chartered or working toward CEng/CGeol
  • Proficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., Slope/W, Plaxis, Wallap, HoleBASE)
