Join I & H Brown as an Environmental Advisor and play a key role in supporting our projects across Scotland. You’ll provide practical environmental advice across a range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, helping to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, planning conditions, and company procedures while driving continuous improvement in environmental performance on site.
Working closely with our project teams, you’ll help translate environmental requirements into practical, workable solutions on site. We’re looking for a proactive and knowledgeable individual with a passion for the environment, strong attention to detail, and the ability to influence positive behaviours, who is keen to make a real impact within a supportive and forward-thinking team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carrying out regular site inspections and audits, identifying risks, and providing practical advice
- Supporting site teams with ecological matters, including pre-construction inspections
- Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences, and consent conditions
- Preparing Construction Environmental Management Plans and site-specific controls
- Supporting pollution prevention, ecology, archaeology, and nuisance management on-site
- Liaising with regulators and stakeholders, including SEPA and NatureScot
- Supporting the investigation of environmental incidents and identifying improvements
- Delivering toolbox talks and providing guidance to improve environmental awareness
- Supporting environmental input into tenders, including risks, constraints, and opportunities
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Ecology, or similar
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant environmental experience
- Membership of a relevant professional body (desirable)
- Experience in an environmental role within construction or civil engineering
- A good understanding of environmental legislation in Scotland and the UK
- Experience carrying out site inspections, audits, and supporting incident investigations
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and support site teams
- A proactive approach and the ability to manage your own workload
