This is an exciting opportunity for school leavers to begin a rewarding career in civil engineering while working towards a fully funded degree through our partnership with the University of Strathclyde. As a Graduate Apprentice Engineer, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience working on live civil engineering projects while studying part-time towards your qualification. You'll be supported by experienced engineers and mentors who will help you apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world construction projects. Key Responsibilities:- Follow the company's Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) systems and carry out duties in accordance with the SHEQ Management Manual and related documentation.
- Represent the company courteously and professionally, promoting a proactive and collaborative approach to good working relationships.
- Carry out survey work and setting out associated with site works.
- Operate, maintain, and keep secure all setting out, IT, and other equipment, ensuring maintenance, servicing, and calibration are carried out at the required intervals.
- Keep accurate field records of surveys, setting out stations, and other markers installed.
- Ensure surveys are completed efficiently and before areas are covered up.
- Produce sketches, drawings, and other supporting documentation as required.
- Carry out sampling, monitoring, and testing on site.
- Liaise closely with colleagues and subcontractors to ensure smooth coordination of site activities.
- Assist in preparing valuations and subcontractor payments.
- Monitor plant and labour productivity, highlighting issues to your Line Manager where necessary.
- Monitor material deliveries and raise any quality or delivery concerns with management.
- Report any issues affecting progress or performance to your line manager promptly.
- Maintain accurate daily records of site resources and activities in the required format.
- Maintain site files and records in line with company requirements.
- Liaise regularly with your Line Manager to ensure clear communication and coordination.
- Take responsibility for your own learning and development, seeking guidance or training before undertaking unfamiliar tasks.
- Attend training courses arranged by the company and participate fully in your academic studies.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role and level of competence.
- Typically, applicants will have four Highers at a minimum of B grades, including Mathematics.
- Enthusiasm for civil engineering and a genuine interest in how things are built.
- Strong attention to detail with a practical, problem-solving mindset.
- Good communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work well with others on site.
- Organised, reliable, and able to balance study commitments with hands-on work.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take on new challenges.
