We are looking for an experienced and motivated Health & Safety (SHEQ) Advisor to join our civil engineering team. This is a key role supporting the SHEQ Manager, Contracts Managers, and Site Teams across a variety of infrastructure projects. You will be actively involved in promoting and maintaining high standards of health & safety, environmental, quality and compliance on site, carrying out inspections, audits, and providing practical advice to support safe and compliant delivery of works. Key Responsibilities:
  • To perform regular SHEQ site inspections and prepare reports of these inspections.
  • To stop any unsafe working practices and raise the matter with site management.
  • To be aware of the Company’s Health and Safety, Environmental, Quality and Energy Management systems and procedures and to ensure their application as they relate to your area of responsibility.
  • Assist in the preparation of safety plan format and updates.
  • Assist the SHEQ Manager in carrying out the 6 monthly review of the SHEQ procedures and forms and ensure all changes made are incorporated into the SHEQ Management Manual and issued to all manual holders.
  • Carry out drugs and alcohol testing on sites when instructed.
  • Liaise with HSE, take part in discussions with bodies concerned with accident prevention and be aware of current recommended Codes of Practice and new safety literature.
  • To attend safety meetings on site if required.
  • Prepare and deliver toolbox talks on site if required.
  • Attend Health & Safety meetings with the SHEQ Manager.
  • Attend meetings with other company departments if required.
  • Promote the safe conduct of work generally and distribute health and safety information to all relevant staff and operatives.
  • Encourage communication between operatives and SHEQ Department/ Management during toolbox talks and inspection visits to site.
  • To attend training courses and seminars as required.
  • To investigate minor site accidents and report as necessary.
  • Production of method statements and risk assessments.
  • To carry out such duties which may be ascribed to the post from time to time.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • NEBOSH Diploma.
  • Proven experience in a SHEQ role within civil engineering and/or earthworks.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK health & safety legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
  • Experience working on infrastructure, earthworks or heavy civil projects.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to sites across Scotland and England.
  • Membership of IOSH (Grad / CMIOSH).
