About the Role

Our client is a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school for pupils aged 11–16. The school supports pupils with a diverse range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), all of whom have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Many pupils present with additional needs across the four areas outlined in the SEN Code of Practice, including cognition and learning, communication and interaction, autism (where SEMH is the primary need), ADHD, and medical needs. The setting provides a structured, supportive environment focused on helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop emotional regulation, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons based on the primary curriculum (KS1–KS2), adapted for secondary-aged learners
  • Develop individualised learning programmes to meet EHCP targets
  • Create a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural development
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Monitor, assess, and report on progress using small-step assessment approaches

Person Specification

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience working with pupils with SEND (particularly ASC, MLD, or SEMH)
  • Strong understanding of differentiation and adaptive teaching strategies
  • Excellent behaviour management skills, with a nurturing and patient approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding

Desirable

  • Experience in a SEND or specialist setting
