We are currently seeking a compassionate, resilient, and proactive Teaching Assistant to support students in an Alternative Provision (AP) setting. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people who may have faced barriers to learning in mainstream education. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and behaviour mentors to support students aged 11–16, many of whom may present with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, challenging behaviour, or SEND.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour using de-escalation strategies
  • Help deliver tailored learning and therapeutic interventions
  • Encourage student engagement, motivation, and self-esteem
  • Support teaching staff in classroom management and lesson delivery
  • Help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Work with external agencies and families where needed

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working in an AP, PRU, SEMH school, or mainstream school with challenging behaviour
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach
  • Empathetic, patient, and understanding of students with complex needs
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Desirable:

  • Team Teach, MAPA or de-escalation training
  • Background in youth work, care, psychology, or SEN support
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice
