Clinical Lead Community Paediatrics in Wideopen

The Clinical Lead provides professional, clinical and strategic leadership for Community Paediatric Services across Hywel Dda University Health Board, ensuring safe, effective, evidence-based and person-centred care for children and young people with developmental, neurodisability, safeguarding and complex health needs.

Working with operational managers, multidisciplinary teams and partner organisations, the post holder leads service improvement, workforce development, clinical governance and performance against Health Board and Welsh Government priorities.

Main duties of the job

• Clinical Leadership: Provide professional and clinical leadership for Community Paediatric Services across Hywel Dda University Health Board, promoting evidence-based practice, high standards of patient care, safety, innovation, continuous improvement and patient-centred services. Act as a senior clinical advisor within Community Children’s Services and wider Children’s Health Services.
• Service Delivery and Performance: Work in partnership with operational leaders to deliver effective, high-quality Community Paediatric Services. Support achievement of Health Board, Welsh Government and national performance targets through monitoring of activity, quality indicators and waiting times. Lead service transformation, redesign and development initiatives to improve access, efficiency and outcomes, contributing to business and workforce planning.
• Safeguarding and Child Protection: Provide senior clinical leadership for safeguarding children and young people, ensuring robust safeguarding practices and effective participation in multi-agency child protection processes. Offer specialist advice on safeguarding and the care of vulnerable children where required.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties. We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services. We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest. Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire. Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings. 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers. Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services.
