Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated and experienced Chief Pharmacy Technician (Procurement and Logistics) to lead and develop our pharmacy procurement and supply chain services. The role is a fixed‑term secondment until 30.06.2027 to cover maternity leave. Applicants must be current employees of Hywel Dda University Health Board and, if applying as a secondment, require agreement from their current manager prior to application.
The post holder will provide operational leadership, drive compliance with financial and governance frameworks, and support medicines optimisation through robust stock control, contract adherence, and expenditure oversight. Key responsibilities include ensuring safe, efficient, and cost‑effective procurement, storage and distribution of medicines across the organisation in line with NHS Wales standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate high‑quality pharmacy technical services, working with senior technicians to ensure safety, accuracy and efficiency of day‑to‑day operations.
- Collaborate closely with pharmacist team leaders to resolve challenges, monitor performance through KPIs and drive continuous improvement using data and benchmarking.
- Oversee audits, implement improvements and ensure compliance with policies, legislation and best practice.
- Manage complex staffing rotas, support service sustainability and development, and provide expert advice to colleagues.
- Shape the future of technical pharmacy services through innovation, change management and effective use of IT systems and automation.
- Support medicines optimisation and procurement strategy in line with NHS Wales requirements.
- Speak Welsh desirable; English speakers welcome.
