This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping and modernising Mental Health services in the Hywel Dda University Health Board. The role of the Wellbeing Practitioner will be based in Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli. This single point of contact is a 24/7 telephone mental health triage assessment service. The philosophy of the service is guided by the following principles:
- Compassion – listening and supporting individuals in crisis.
- Prevention – access to support as early as possible.
- Equality – mental health crises treated with equal urgency as physical health care.
- Resilience – building on strengths and providing information and options for self‑care and self‑referral.
Main duties of the job:
As a Band 5 Wellbeing Practitioner you will provide high‑quality telephone triage, coaching, advice and assessment to individuals of all ages who are experiencing mental distress or acute crisis, producing safe and appropriate clinical decisions. You will also give information, advice and guidance to families and carers, and liaise with partner agencies such as GP’s, Welsh Ambulance, Local Authority, Police and the third sector. You will work under the guidance of a Senior Practitioner, covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on a shift basis with a multi‑disciplinary team. You will use a range of psychological interventions and skills to support individuals with mental health problems. You will support the Clinical Lead in developing the innovative Mental Health Single Point of Contact service, which will be facilitated through the National 111 service.
Key job requirements:
- Shift work – flexible to meet the service need, including out‑of‑hours and weekend working.
- Available to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Qualifications and knowledge:
- Graduate or diploma level education in a related field such as psychology, social care or occupational therapy, or equivalent demonstrable experience, or lived experience of mental ill‑health.
- Knowledge of a broad range of mental health and well‑being conditions.
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
- Knowledge and experience of delivering therapeutic interventions.
- Awareness of national and local issues concerning mental health.
Experience:
- Experience working with individuals with mental illness.
- Working knowledge of risk management.
- Sound knowledge of clinical/service issues within area of practice.
- Knowledge and application of safeguarding policies and procedures for children and adults.
- Knowledge of care coordination procedures.
- Application of evidence‑based psychological therapy interventions.
- Working knowledge and application of the recovery model.
- Lived experience of mental ill‑health.
Other:
- Ability to travel across the health board footprint in a timely manner.
- Flexible working in line with service need over 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Language skills:
- Welsh speaker – Level 1 (desirable).
