Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Prince Philip Hospital for a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist with drive and ability to become part of the dynamic Pharmacy Team. You will work in a supportive environment with training opportunities to build on your foundation skills and develop your expertise. Prince Philip Hospital is a District General Hospital with around 250 beds, located in the town of Llanelli just off the M4 within easy reach of Swansea, the Gower and West Wales. It provides a range of medical specialties including coronary care unit, intensive care unit, acute stroke unit, palliative care, orthopaedics, general surgery as well as busy admissions and medical unit, minor injuries unit and same day emergency care. Professional development is of utmost importance and support and training will be provided. We are a patient-centred and progressive team who work closely with the multidisciplinary teams enhancing patient safety through professional advice to prescribers, discharge planning and attending consultant ward rounds. The innovative and friendly pharmacy team is well established within the health board. We are both ambitious and motivated, focusing our work around the best interests of our patients and continuously striving to improve the services we offer.
Responsibilities
- Undertake ward rotations and dispensary based duties including clinical checking of homecare prescriptions and infusions unit as well as outpatient prescriptions.
- Provide professional advice to prescribers, contribute to discharge planning and attend consultant ward rounds as part of a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Develop autonomy and responsibility by gaining experience in a number of specialist areas under the direction of experienced colleagues.
- Support junior pharmacists, Trainee Pharmacists and Undergraduate Students undertaking the MPharm course.
- Contribute to planning and delivery of the medicines optimisation strategy.
- Undertake the non-medical prescribing qualification if not already held, or use existing qualification to further develop expertise.
Qualifications and Skills
- Highly motivated pharmacist with excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and support colleagues within the pharmacy and clinical setting.
- Desirable Welsh language ability; English and/or Welsh speakers are welcome to apply.
