The role supports Cancer service evaluation, quality improvement, and compliance with NHS standards. The Cancer Audit Assistant provides administrative and data support to the cancer audit and outcomes team, helping to ensure accurate, timely, and complete cancer data is collected, recorded, and submitted in line with national audit and reporting requirements.

Main duties of the job:

  • The post holder will provide dedicated data entry and audit support for the ten national cancer audits coordinated by the National Cancer Audit Collaborating Centre (NATCAN).
  • This includes interpreting clinical and non-clinical information and accurately inputting data into Cancer Data Set forms from multiple sources, such as diagnoses, TNM classification, tumour morphology and ICD coding.
  • The role requires working to strict deadlines to ensure the timely annual submissions and support to MDT Co-ordinators with data collection.
  • You will maintain accurate audit records, monitoring progress against timelines and carry out regular checks, to ensure data quality and completeness.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties. We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services. We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire.
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings.
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers.
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject e.g. IT, business or equivalent experience.
  • A knowledge of tumour site-specific cancer.
  • Knowledge of IT systems / data entry / word processing and spreadsheets.
  • RSA/OCR 3 or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Other:

  • Flexible approach to needs of service.
  • Able to travel to various sites within and outside the Health Board to attend meetings or training venues.
  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1).
