An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced pharmacy professional to join our team as aSeniorPharmacy Technician based at Withybush Pharmacy Department. We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician with significant experience to provide professional and operational leadership. This involves the responsibility for the day-to-day management and effective delivery of a safe, accurate and efficient service across stores, dispensary and procurement.

You will deputise for the site Chief Pharmacy Technician as well as line manage and supervise the Pharmacy Technicians and Assistant Technical Officers. You will lead, develop and support the team, contributing to recruitment, workforce planning and performance, whilst promoting a positive and inclusive team environment. You will be expected to manage complex operational issues and ensure compliance with legal, professional and governance standards using performance data and quality improvement methods.

Main duties of the job

  • To act as the operational Lead Pharmacy Technician, with responsibility for the day-to-day staff line management and effective service delivery within dispensary, stores and procurement
  • To ensure the provision of a safe, accurate, efficient and cost-effective service in line with health board objectives.
  • To provide visible operational leadership to the team, promoting a positive, supportive and inclusive working culture.
  • To contribute to the development, review and implementation of local policies, procedures and standard operating procedures in line with professional standards and Health board governance requirements.

Job responsibilities

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practice or NVQ Level 3 and BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Significant post-registration experience of working as a pharmacy technician on a ward or in a clinical area.
  • Management Qualification/Experience
  • Membership of a professional body e.g. APTUK.
  • HEIW Level 4 Consultation Skills for Pharmacy Technicians
  • Trained Educational Supervisor for the PRPT programme
  • Certificate in Education or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Leadership Qualification
  • PWDS Pharmacy Optimisation Training Programme (PMOTP)- Unit 3 Clinical Prioritisation.
  • CIPPS Qualification in Procurement
  • Level 4/5 Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Services and Therapeutics
  • Qualification in Service Improvement i.e. IQT Bronze, or foundation in improvement module or equivalent experience.

  • Extensive experience in secondary care
  • Extensive experience of training different staff grades
  • Experience of the management/supervision of staff
  • Experience in managing change
  • Experience in managing a service
  • Demonstrate accuracy and efficiency in dispensing, accuracy checking and throughout the medicines management ward processes
  • Experience in more than one sector
  • Experience of recruiting staff
  • Experience of reading and interpreting blood results

Other

  • Flexible approach to the needs of the service to undertake weekend, Bank holiday and late shift working
  • Ability to travel within the Health Board and across Wales as necessary in a timely manner
  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
