We are seeking a Band 7 Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Pembrokeshire. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced specialist palliative care nurse to develop and enhance local services, delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care for those with life‑limiting conditions.
Job summary
As a B7 CNS you will provide expert clinical assessment, symptom management and psychological support. You'll act as a key contact for patients, carers and professionals, offering advice, education, and coordinating care across settings. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support seamless care pathways and promote best practice. The role includes delivering specialist training across primary and secondary care and contributing to audit and quality improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence‑based nursing care and provide expert advice and clinical practice.
- Lead and manage a team of specialist nurses, delivering specialist education and training.
- Collaborate with clinical colleagues to develop services and improve care quality, providing leadership in the development of clinical services within the specialist field.
- Demonstrate and promote the Health Board’s values.
- Provide specialist nursing care, advice, guidance and leadership, and take responsibility for a specialist nursing service.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers and multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications and knowledge
- Registered Nurse (Part 1) and current NMC registration.
- Master’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Specialist qualifications in palliative care.
- Expert knowledge of clinical speciality and service improvement.
- Capability to undertake literature searches and critically appraise research.
Desirable qualifications
- Teaching qualification.
- Management qualification.
- Advanced clinical skills.
- Non‑medical prescribing course.
Essential experience
- Experience in the relevant specialty and working in a multi‑professional environment.
- Experience managing a ward/area/department.
- Experience with pre‑registration nursing/midwifery student mentorship.
- Experience undertaking audit.
Desirable experience
- Experience participating in research.
Language skills
Welsh speaker (Level 1) is desirable. English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Other requirements
- Flexibility in working pattern to ensure maximum visibility of CNS team.
- Ability to travel to all areas of the UHB in a timely manner.
