The candidate should be experienced in general radiology with demonstrated competency in undertaking a wide range of non-vascular interventions. The Health Board supports a progressive team of 24 consultants and opportunities to contribute to radiology services within Hywel Dda University Health Board. Applications are welcome from those interested in a position less than full time. Collaboration with neighbouring Health Boards for vascular experience may be explored for eligible candidates.

The successful candidate will be based at one of three main sites—Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthenshire; Withybush Hospital, Pembrokeshire; or Prince Philip Hospital in Carmarthenshire—decided on appointment. Occasional travel to Bronglais General Hospital in Ceredigion to perform non-vascular interventions may be required in line with service need.

Main duties

This is a new post with the base to be agreed on appointment. The post joins 24 Consultant Radiologists providing radiology services to the population of Hywel Dda University Health Board, 2.5 whole-time-equivalent (WTE) of whom undertake non-vascular interventions. The post holder will actively contribute to MDT meetings and be competent in a wide range of non-vascular interventions including fluoroscopic, ultrasound and CT-guided therapeutic and diagnostic techniques, such as:

  • Head and neck, lung, liver, omental, retroperitoneal and soft tissue biopsies
  • Temporary and permanent chest and abdominal drain insertions (e.g. cholecystectomy, nephrostomy and DJ ureteric stenting)

The successful candidate will participate in the daytime Duty Radiologist rota covering inpatient scanning, with cross-site coverage as required. A portion of out-of-hours on-call is outsourced to an online teleradiology provider, with ongoing transformation to bring a portion of this service in-house. The successful candidate will contribute to the new internal on-call rota, providing flexible cross-site reporting and emergency cover for our four main hospital sites, on-site or remotely from home where appropriate.
