We have an exciting development in West Wales. We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist who is passionate about working with people with learning disabilities, who is enthusiastic and creative in their working.

We require a Psychologist who believes in working alongside individuals and their networks to strengthen the individuals\’ preferred identities and values to enable new possibilities.

You will be able to provide specialist assessment to individuals with learning disabilities and their families or carers. You will be able to formulate and plan interventions for people with learning disabilities and the network around them. You will have skills in working with a wide range of mental health issues in people with learning disabilities, their families and the systems around them.

To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients, raising psychological and psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.

To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, in both community, in-patient and residential settings.

To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.

To work with other staff to assess clients in community, residential and in-patient settings, and to review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.

To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.

To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services
